Coin sculpture

The Art Department Assemblage class has installed a sculptural assemblage using coins in the Atrium of the Baron and Ellin Gordon Galleries on campus. The coins were originally collected by former ODU president Roseanne Runte for the purpose of being melted down to make a statue for world peace. Assemblage class professor Peter Eudenbach borrowed them for his class to construct a teetering skyline out of money to be a model of the current state of things. “Whenever we look at a skyline, we are looking at both a collection of buildings and an accumulation of financial transactions. Even globalism is the result of millions of individual relationships and exchanges. The displayed arrangement is both cumulative and precarious, a model of the fragile nature of local and global economies.”
