Field Trip to Richmond

The Art Department is sponsoring a field trip to Richmond for Friday, November 2. Ticket price is $15.00, with sign up now in the Art Office. Deadline  is October 29.

The itinerary is:
1:00: Depart across from the Visual Arts Building, Lot 8
2:30/3:00:  Arrive at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
5:00:  Depart VMFA for dinner at Popkin Tavern or other local restaurants located on Broad Street
7:00/7:30:  First Fridays Art Walk, which will also be an opportunity to attend the opening of an exhibition by our own Greta Pratt, Photography Professor. The exhibition will take place at the Candella Gallery, Candela Books and Gallery, 214 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23220
9:30:  Depart from Richmond traveling to Norfolk
11:00/11:30: Arrive in Norfolk at the Visual Arts Building.

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts houses a remarkable permanent collection of more than twenty-three thousand works of art from almost every major world culture. Especially noteworthy are the museum’s collections of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Modern and Contemporary American art donated by Sydney and Frances Lewis; French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art and British sporting art given by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon; American art acquired through the J. Harwood and Louise B. CochraneFund; The Lillian Thomas Pratt Collection of Fabergé jeweled objects; and The Jerome and Rita Gans Collection of English Silver. The museum’s holdings of South Asian, Himalayan, and African art are among the finest in the nation.

Richmond’s most popular arts and cultural program, the First Fridays Art Walk, showcases nearly 40 unique creative venues in Downtown Richmond, Virginia. Concentrated in the areas east of Belvidere Street and west of 8th Street, and north and south in Historic Jackson Ward and Monroe Ward, the Art Walk features diverse galleries, unique shopping, top-rated restaurants, cultural organizations, historic accommodations, and independent studios. We invite you to join us in celebrating Richmond’s thriving arts and cultural community on the first Friday of each month for this free self-guided experience held rain or shine between 5:00pm-9:30pm.
