Annual Scholarship and Student Show Jury on April 23!

3rd Annual Old Dominion University Art Students’ Juried Exhibition/Scholarship Competition

Exhibition selected by Ragan Cole-Cunningham, Director of Exhibitions and Education, Contemporary Art Center of Virginia.
Scholarships selected by Art Department Faculty.

Drop off work:
Gordon Galleries
Wednesday, April 21 and Thursday, April 22; 11:30 – 4:30 both days.

Friday, April 23

Pick up work:
Saturday April 24 and Sunday 24 and 25, 1:30 – 4:30 (please note starting time change!).

Selected work must be returned to gallery ready for installation on Tuesday, April 27, 11:30 – 4:30
Show dates are: May 1 – May 16, Reception, Saturday, May 1, 7:00–9:00pm

On Friday, April 23, the Art Department will be holding a review to select works for the first Art Students’ Exhibition in addition to its annual Scholarship competition. The Art Students’ Exhibition will be held in ODU’s University Gallery. All students are eligible to compete by submitting a selection of work. The Art Department faculty will select the Scholarship winners while a distinguished outside juror will curate the Exhibition. Students selected for Scholarships will automatically be included in the Exhibition.

Art History students are eligible for a Scholarship (through the Charles K. Sibley Fine Arts and Art History Scholarship) by submitting one paper (may be a revision of a class paper, minimum of 5 pages, double-spaced, and a completed application form. Papers should be submitted to Dr. Anthony Lichi in Diehn 118 by 5:00pm on Monday, April 5.

Students applying for the Exhibition and Scholarships based on artwork, must bring their work on Wednesday, April 21 or Thursday, April 2 between 11:30am–4:30am to the Gordon Galleries with a completed application form, and a pre-made 4×5 card with your name and e-mail clearly printed. Portfolios may contain no more than five (5) pieces total. Anything deemed a “series” must be physically connected in order to be considered as one piece. Studio applicants must also include an artist’s statement no more than 100 words. Judging will take place Friday, April 23.

Students selected for the Exhibition will be posted here at the Art department blog and posted at the gallery during work pick-up times. Scholarship winners will be publicly announced at the Exhibition opening, Saturday, May 1, 7:00–9:00pm.
