The work of adjunct faculty member Clay McGlamory is included in Peninsula Glass Guild Twenty-Second Annual Juried Exhibition at the Charles H. Taylor Arts Center in Hampton. The show runs December 5, 2009–January 10, 2010 with an opening reception Friday, December 4 from 7:30-9:30. There will be a hot glass demonstration in the parking lot from 5-8 and a silent auction from 5:00-8:30 in the upstairs gallery. Exhibition juror Milton Townsend will be giving a free lecture at the American Theater on Thursday, December 3 at 7:30 titled “Creativity: Making the Personal Universal.”

The work of sculpture professor Peter Eudenbach is presented in the exhibition Peter Eudenbach: Cause and Effect at the Taubman Museum in  Roanoke, Virginia, November 20, 2009 – February 14, 2010. The exhibition features Time Transfixed, a reimagining of the famous René Magritte painting, and Tours de Revolution, which mixes Ferris Wheels and Marcel Duchamp with Gustave Eiffel’s Tour Eiffel, among other video and sculptural works.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Dormitorium: an exhibition of Film Décors by the Quay Brothers, the Gordon Galleries and ODU Department of Art will host a panel discussion about the work of the Quay Brothers on Monday, November 9, 6:00 p.m at University Theatre, located on Hampton Boulevard between 46th and 47th streets.
The panel will include Elizabeth King, School of Art, Virginia Commonwealth University; Frederick Lubich, ODU Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures; and Linda McGreevy, ODU Department of Art.

Art Education Lecturer Patty Edwards has been named this year’s winner of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton Roads’ Bettie Minette Cooper Arts Educator Award. The “Alli” awards primarily honor contributions in the past year to the local arts community by individuals, businesses and the media. The ceremony took place at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum in Williamsburg. As was rightly observed by the Virginian-Pilot, “Edwards has excelled at connecting her art-education students with community organizations through public art projects.” Congratulations Patty!

Art History professor Dr. Anthony Lichi will be leading a summer 2010 trip to Italy, to study the Italian Renaissance in Florence and Rome.

This course offers students the opportunity to experience, first hand, the amazing paintings, sculptures, and architecture of the Renaissance in the very places the movement was born.
Daytrips included to sites outside Florence and Rome, as well as visits to many outstanding places of interest within the cities themselves. These include trips to Pisa, Assisi, and Siena, and excursions to important museums and art pieces scattered throughout the cities.

The class will meet on campus the week prior to the trip to Italy, and each day the two weeks following the return to Norfolk. Participants will complete assigned readings throughout the course, and write a research paper, accompanied with a brief presentation.

Priority application deadline:
February 15, 2010 (inquire about availability after this date; reserve early to assure availability of space)
Cost: $3,250* with scholarship
