In conjunction with the exhibition, Dormitorium: an exhibition of Film Décors by the Quay Brothers, the Gordon Galleries and ODU Department of Art will host a panel discussion about the work of the Quay Brothers on Monday, November 9, 6:00 p.m at University Theatre, located on Hampton Boulevard between 46th and 47th streets.
The panel will include Elizabeth King, School of Art, Virginia Commonwealth University; Frederick Lubich, ODU Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures; and Linda McGreevy, ODU Department of Art.

Art Education Lecturer Patty Edwards has been named this year’s winner of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton Roads’ Bettie Minette Cooper Arts Educator Award. The “Alli” awards primarily honor contributions in the past year to the local arts community by individuals, businesses and the media. The ceremony took place at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum in Williamsburg. As was rightly observed by the Virginian-Pilot, “Edwards has excelled at connecting her art-education students with community organizations through public art projects.” Congratulations Patty!

Art History professor Dr. Anthony Lichi will be leading a summer 2010 trip to Italy, to study the Italian Renaissance in Florence and Rome.

This course offers students the opportunity to experience, first hand, the amazing paintings, sculptures, and architecture of the Renaissance in the very places the movement was born.
Daytrips included to sites outside Florence and Rome, as well as visits to many outstanding places of interest within the cities themselves. These include trips to Pisa, Assisi, and Siena, and excursions to important museums and art pieces scattered throughout the cities.

The class will meet on campus the week prior to the trip to Italy, and each day the two weeks following the return to Norfolk. Participants will complete assigned readings throughout the course, and write a research paper, accompanied with a brief presentation.

Cost: $3,250* with scholarship

The Old Dominion University Department of Art faculty exhibition opened Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries. The show features recent work by full-time and adjunct faculty members, many of whom have achieved national recognition for their creative and scholarly work. Fields of expertise represented by the art department include art and architectural history, art education, and such studio areas as drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, graphic design, sculpture, fibers, clay and metalsmithing. The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of two recently deceased department members: Robert McCullough, associate professor of graphic design, and Carole Hubbard, visiting associate professor of art education.

Faculty members exhibiting pieces in the new show include Anne Bousquet, Natalie Bray, Heather Bryant, James Chalkley, Diane de Beixedon, Ken Daley, Patricia Edwards, Peter Eudenbach, Anna Velkoff Freeman, Ralph Irby, Patricia Isenhour, Elliott Jones, Jiwon Lee, Elizabeth Leeor, Clay McGlamory, Richard Nickel, Pam Ponce, Greta Pratt, John Roth, Virginia Van Horn, and Nikki Webb.
