Spectrum: Senior Show Exhibition

Spectrum, a exhibition of works by graduating Studio Art students, will be presented in the Changing Gallery of the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries. Show dates are March 2–25, with an opening reception Friday, March 2, 7:00–9:00 PM.

ODU Art Students Participate in “Diamond Dust”

ODU Studio Art and Art History students are participating in the creation of Diamond Dust, artist Judith Braun‘s 50-foot mural in progress at the Chrysler Museum’s Waitzer Community Gallery, February 11–17. The participating students are Stephanie Eley, Rachel Gaus, Abigail Johnson, Karl Jones, Karine Lombardo, Nicole Marlowe, Oktawian Otlewski, Holly Pim, Larissa Williams, Rali Manouk, Heather Prestage, Bianca Rawlings, and Elyse Lovelace. Alumnus named Teacher of the Year

Art Education alumnus Brandon Burdick (’07) was recently designated Douglass Park Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year. Douglass Park is part of the Portsmouth public school system. Congratulations to Brandon on his achievement!

NYC Field Trip!

Come and visit The MoMA, The Whitney Museum, and other exciting destinations! The Art Department has scheduled a Weekend Field Trip to New York City. Sprinter Bus departs from ODU Friday, March 2, 11:30 PM and arrives in NYC Saturday, March 3, 6:00 AM. The bus returns to ODU Sunday, March 4, 11:00 PM. Cost is $60 round trip fare, $50 room at the West Side YMCA. If you don’t select a roommate, one will be assigned. Payment must be paid in cash in the Art Office by February 14, 2012 to reserve your seat. Estimated total costs including fare, meals, museum admission will be around $150 – $175. 50 seats are available and reservations may be made immediately. Participating professors will be developing specific itineraries.

Manuel Zavala Design Honorably Mentioned

Studio Art/Graphic Design student Manuel Zavala received Honorable Mention for his Origami Festival Poster at the Flux Student Design Competition held by AIGA Blue Ridge. His poster was exhibited at the awards ceremony at The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in Frederick, Maryland and will be displayed on the AIGA Blue Ridge website.

Don Esindu Senior Show

Don Esindu will present his senior show, Proudly African, at the Amazing African Restaurant in Virginia Beach, November 20 – 26. The exhibition will comprise of prints, photos, paintings and screening of two documentary films on Nigeria culture: The Osun Osogbo Festival of Nigeria and Ancient Nok Art Culture of Nigeria. An opening reception will be held on the November 20, 2:00–5:00pm.
